On September 27th our speaker was Kathryn Burk-Hise of the Spokane Preservation Advocates (SPA). She told us about the purpose of the organization, some of their successes and losses, and discussed ways that everyone can get involved with saving our local heritage.

Spokane Preservation Advocates (SPA) was formed in 1997 by a group of local historic preservation advocates, who believed in the value of preservation and its role in enhancing Spokane’s quality of life. These preservation pioneers saw the need for a new organization in Spokane to supplement the work of existing preservation-related groups while also providing a strong advocacy voice for preservation issues. From the very beginning, SPA has been inclusive, open to all.

The SPA has two events coming up that may interest our Rotary members:

  • Sunday, October 20th, Noon to 4:00pm SPA's 14th Annual Autumn Historic Homes Tour
  • Saturday, December 7th, 6:00pm  17th Annual Holiday Celebration & Fundraiser
